You should understand Why the device doesn’t count steps, that Strain is logarithmic and that yellow recoveries are the not a bad thing but rather a baseline. IMO the biggest difference to competing products is the WHOOP algorithm and how it interprets the measurements (such as heart rate, HRV, RHR etc.) but it won’t do anything for you if you can’t interpret the data. Recovery Strain and Sleep are the key metrics you will be looking at. Make sure you get an understanding of the fundamental “mechanics” that WHOOP is built on. but seeing the numbers connected to it really made me realize how draining the day after really is (Granted there might be a kind of “placebo” / confirmation bias effect of feeling even more shitty when seeing a red recovery)īefore / Upon purchasing - What should you do? Of course the day after drinking never felt great but I used to brush it off to just being tired in general in addition to the hangover etc. Nowdays a spend around 8.5h in bed (or at least try to - life still gets in the way obviously) and feel much more awake and alert during the day then ever.Īlcohol - pretty sure nobody is stupid enough to think excessive drinking is good for the body but seeing the affect even 1-2 drinks had on my recovery really made me rethink my drinking and I now only drink on very rare occasions. I take sleep much more serious these days, I used to think the suggested Sleep Times on the app were ridculous which they can be - if you are in a big sleep deficit. How has it improved my life personally? For me personally, two major things have changed due things I learned from WHOOP data: The Band is worn by many athletes as well as some well known people in the health/self improvement space, the company has claimed that they are not sponsoring any athletes that did not wear / like the band prior to being sponsored although this of course is hard to verify. For me the biggest strength / unique factor compared to other health trackers is how it processes and displays the measured data. It is important to mention that the device is based on cardiovascular for now, meaning that mainly activites that affect heart rate elevation are taken into account. WHOOP is an activity and lifestyle tracker that, through measuring various metrics, aims to help you balance exertion and recovery. It might be right for you as well, maybe it's not.ĭepending who you are and what your goals are this text might be entirely useless bullshit to you, Take everything I say with a grain of salt, my experience with the product might be different from yours - but here is is how I think you could enjoy WHOOP too.

Whoop is often criticized in this sub, granted, many things can and should be improved - but as a happy user for almost a year who will be extending the membership I thought I would make a post with some notes on how I use the product and have come to enjoy itīefore you beat me to it in the comments: yes, I'm a bit of a fanboy and definitely fascinated by the product, mainly due to the awareness for certain health factors it provides and the added accountability that comes with it.
